Josh Ginnelly | It’s been an uphill battle, but I’ve just got to keep working to get more moments like this
Josh Ginnelly is targeting more good moments in a Swansea City shirt after returning from injury to score a wonder goal on his debut.
The former Hearts player scored the final goal in a 3-0 win over League One Northampton Town in the Carabao Cup first round on Tuesday evening, as he fired in from 30 yards after beating a defender to give himself room.
It was a wonderful moment for Ginnelly as he introduced himself to the Jack Army, but of equal importance to the forward was being back out on the pitch after such a frustrating start to life at his new club.
And he revealed the extra work he is putting in on the training pitch to ensure he can make the impact he wants to in SA1.
“It’s done a lot for my confidence because it’s been tough since I got here with the injury," he said.
“I’m still a few weeks behind the boys and I can feel that in training, but it was good to get out there for my debut and to get a goal as well.
“I’ve got to get up to speed as quickly as I can and it’s a different challenge for me because I’ve come in and got injured on day one. It’s been a bit of an uphill battle, but I’ve just got to keep working and hopefully get more moments like this.
“I’m doing extra in training trying to get my touch back, it’s quite tough but I’ve just got to keep going.
“When you come to a new club, you want to put a marker down but I haven’t been able to do that.”
Despite the challenges, Ginnelly feels he’s settled in well with his new team-mates.
“It’s been good, it’s a different changing room,” he added.
“The boys are brilliant, they’re all good players and good people so we’re heading in the right direction.”
