Josh Carey | Team spirit key to comeback win
Swansea City Under-18s skipper Josh Carey felt his side had underlined the strength of their team spirit after pulling off another second-half comeback to beat Reading in their Professional Development League clash on Saturday afternoon.
The Swans trailed early on as Taylan Harris opened the scoring with 10 minutes played, and the Royals held on to their advantage going into the break.
However, substitute Yori Griffith levelled almost immediately following the restart, and the Swans went on to dominate the remainder of the contest, with fantastic goals from Carey and Geoff Bony completing a 3-1 win.
It was Carey's second goal of the season, after scoring his first at the Stadium of Light back in December as the Swans faced Sunderland in the FA Youth Cup.
And he was delighted by the togetherness the young Swans have shown on a number of occasions this season, when they have come from behind to claim a positive result.
“I though the whole team played well as a collective and we worked really well together after we had a slow start in the first 20 minutes," said Carey.
"We have showed real spirit all season, and it shows in how we have been able to come from behind in games like this. You cannot pick up these sorts of results if you don't stick together and work for each other.
“We weren’t high enough or aggressive enough on the press, but when we sorted those components out after conceding they couldn’t live with us, we took on board the feedback from half-time and we built from there.
“I was happy to score, but the most important thing when scoring a goal is that it is for the team, it doesn’t matter how it goes in, the most important thing is the team winning.
“As the game went on, we worked out how to press more aggressively and how to break them down in certain areas.
“And from then, we dominated possession come the second half and we made it very difficult for them to break us down.
“Every time we went forward, we looked dangerous, and we looked like scoring. There were a few tactical tweaks at half-time and that helped us greatly.
“We just need to carry on now, we’ve had a nice run of results recently, we just need to keep going and not take our foot off the gas."
