Jordan eyes a final flourish

Jordan Ayew is determined to finish his fine season with a flourish as he bids to fire Swansea City to Premier League safety.

Ayew is full of pride after being names Players’ Player of the Year at the Swans’ end-of-season awards dinner in midweek.

The former Aston Villa forward also took home the Goalscorer Award, while his fine solo effort against Wolves in the FA Cup was voted the goal of the season.

Ayew was humbled to collect the hat-trick of prizes – but insists he will only celebrate once the Swans are clear of relegation danger.

“I have these trophies but I cannot enjoy them until we are safe,” he said.

“I am going to make sure we stay in the Premier League. I am sure we are going to do it, but we need to do the job on the pitch.

“If we do that I will have fulfilled my targets for the season.”

Ayew is set to lead the line at Bournemouth on Saturday, when the Swans will hope to register what could be a pivotal victory.

Carvalhal’s men then face home fixtures against fellow strugglers Southampton and Stoke as they scrap to stay up.

Ayew heads into the three key games full of confidence having been recognised for his efforts in 2017-18.

“I am really proud and really happy because I have gone through a lot of difficult moments and the awards are a sign that I am improving,” he added.

“For me and my family, my wife, it’s a positive thing. We just need to stay focused now and keep working hard to go further and further.

“I need to thank my family and also I have to thank god. If it wasn’t for him I would not be doing what I am doing.

“I came to Swansea through the little door and a year and a half later I have some trophies. That is a sign that I am improving.

“This gives me more hunger and drive to go forward, and gives me more belief that I can fulfil my dreams.”
