Jon Grey | Let's put performance and result together
Jon Grey has urged Swansea City Under-23s to combine a good performance with a positive result when they return to Premier League 2 Division Two action against West Brom at Landore (7pm).
Fans can watch the match LIVE on swanseacity.com and our official Facebook page from 7pm.
The young Swans welcome the Baggies for what will be their first game since the Premier League Cup clash with Reading on February 8.
In that game, the under-23s responded well to a 4-0 defeat by Newcastle five days earlier; producing a positive display and were unlucky to only come away with a 1-1 draw.
Now, Grey has challenged his players to put performance and result together against West Brom, who are currently third in the Premier League 2 Division Two table.
The Baggies fielded experienced first-team players in Chris Brunt, Ahmed Hegazi and Kenneth Zohore during their 2-0 victory over the Swans at The Hawthorns in December.
And Grey feels a similar experience three months on will be beneficial to his players, who he says cannot wait to be back on the pitch.
“The boys are chomping at the bit to get back out there,” the under-23s coach said.
“We’ve had a good couple of weeks of training, which has allowed us to instil a few more of our principles.
“We’re now looking for a game where we can put those principles into action.
“We’re happy to get our games programme back underway; we’re looking forward to the game and a very busy period coming up.
“We were disappointed with the result against Newcastle but delighted with the performance against Reading.
“Now, it’s a case of trying to put the performance and result together in this game.
“West Brom are a very strong academy and normally field a strong team in this league. There have been several games in which they’ve fielded first-team players, so it should be a really good test for our boys.”
