Joel Piroe | We need to do more in the final third
Joel Piroe wants to play his part in helping Swansea City hit their stride in the final third, admitting they did not make enough of their first-half showing against Bristol City.
The Dutchman netted his ninth goal of the season - with a little help from an unselfish Liam Cullen assist - in Sunday's FA Cup clash.
But Swansea were frustrated not to have made more of a dominant opening-half display at Ashton Gate, as a 1-1 draw ensured a replay in SA1 will be required.
Head coach Russell Martin felt the opening half had seen his side produce some of their best football of his tenure, but was frustrated they had not made more of some of the promising situations they got themselves into.
And, while Piroe was happy to be on the scoresheet, he knows it is a collective responsibility to ensure the Swans are clinical in making the most of their build-up play.
“Firstly, we want to keep a clean sheet and not give away silly chances,” said the former PSV Eindhoven forward.
“I think we can do much more in the final third and I think we should have scored two or three goals against Bristol.
“You always want to improve season on season, and I think I should be aiming for the same as I got last season again.
"But it's not just about me, we are a team and we have to work together to make sure we make the most of our good play."
