Joe Allen has urged Swansea City to back up their win at Oxford United when they return to home turf against Watford on Tuesday night (8pm).

The Swans returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, producing a dominant display and getting a deserved three points.

They return to the Swansea.com Stadium to face the high-flying Hornets – who currently sit fifth in the Championship - under the lights.

And Allen – who made his first start of the season against the U’s – wants the Swans to take the chance to take another positive step in game two of a three-game week.

“I think when you start a three-game week with a win, then it gives you a real opportunity to try and rack up more points and get into a better position,” he said.

“We are looking forward to being back at home, and the challenge for us now is to back up that result at Oxford United and perform to a similar level again.

“If we do that then we give ourselves the best chance of getting another three points.

“The message has been consistent, and that is that people need to be ready to step up and be the person that gets the goal or makes the difference.”

Allen played 55 minutes against Oxford, linking up well alongside captain Matt Grimes and Goncalo Franco in the middle of the park.

And the Wales international was pleased with how the trio dovetailed together.

“It was really good to get that first start and I really enjoyed playing alongside Grimesy and Franco,” he added.

“They are two excellent players, they have been brilliant all season.

“I felt we worked well together, everyone really stepped up and we need to look to keep this going.”
