Joe Allen eyeing strong end to the season
Midfielder Joe Allen hopes he and Swansea City can build on their south Wales derby victory and finish the season strongly.
The former Wales international has been in a fine vein of form since returning from a groin injury, and helped the Swans to a 2-0 win over Cardiff City prior to the international break.
Luke Williams’ side have three wins and a draw from their last five Championship fixtures, and begin the final eight-game run-in when they visit Sheffield Wednesday on Good Friday (3pm).
“It's been a good run for me, I was determined to get fit and work my way into the team and stay in the team and, at the moment things, are going well, I want to stay in the team from now until the end of the season and help us finish strongly,” he said.
“As an experienced player, you do not just want to be here to be good around the place, you want to be out on the pitch having an effect on performances and results.
“I always have something to prove, you can never rest on your laurels and the second you get complacent in this game it won’t be long before you fall down the leagues or out of the game completely, so I have always made sure to keep a strong mindset and I’m always hungry to try and prove myself.”
Allen also praised the impact head coach Williams has made since returning to the club in January.
“He’s been brilliant, he was someone who knew the club well before coming in which is a huge bonus,” added Allen.
“The players spoke extremely highly of him when he was arriving and he hasn’t disappointed at all, we have made huge strides collectively day in day out on the training pitch and performances more recently have shown that.”
