Jerry Yates | It’s a good point in the end
Jerry Yates feels there is plenty of improvement to come from Swansea City as they look to build on the positives of their 1-1 draw against Coventry City.
The former Blackpool man struck his second goal in as many home Championship games for the Swans, heading in the equaliser shortly after Matty Godden had opened the scoring for last season's beaten play-off finalists.
Both sides had chances to take all three points, but it ended all-square with the Swans showing strong mentality to deal with a series of corners and set-pieces into their box during the closing stages.
Yates is glad he has hit the ground running in his new surroundings, but believes there is plenty more to come from Michael Duff's side.
“On a personal note, it’s a nice feeling to get a goal but obviously we want to go out there and get the three points,” said Yates.
“Coventry are a good side, so it’s a good point in the end, but we want to go on and win more games and we need to get better at that.
“Playing in front of the fans is great, but I’d prefer to not score and us get three points so we move on to next week now."
Yates' goals may grab the headlines, but his work off the ball is also of great importance as Swans boss Michael Duff wants a side that plays on the front foot with and without possession.
And he is more than happy to put in the hard graft to help the team.
“The gaffer said before kick-off that me and Joel (Piroe) need to set the tempo, so we try to go out there and do that," he added.
"Obviously it’s tough at times against a side like that, but I felt we did well, battled well and stayed in the game. I think in the end we had the better chances.
“To be honest, in my mind, the character and togetherness we have in this group can never be questioned. Maybe we need a little bit of luck to get the first win, and we’ll kick on from there.
“It’s a tough league, I’m excited to go to Preston. I’m looking forward to it.”
