Jay Fulton | We need to cut out the mistakes and bounce back
Jay Fulton says Swansea City need to cut out the mistakes as they look to bounce back against Coventry City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday.
The Swans suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat at The Hawthorns last time out, with a late fightback through goals from Harry Darling and Nathan Wood falling short.
Swansea had trailed 3-0, with two of the Baggies’ goals coming after the visitors had failed to deal with long throws into their box.
And midfielder Fulton knows Michael Duff’s side will need to cut out those errors and play with high energy from the off against a Sky Blues side who were beaten play-off finalists last season.
“There is plenty to work on, and we’ve got a full week on the training ground to look to put right the mistakes that have cost us,” said the Scot.
“We have been unbeaten at home so far this season, although I know it is early days, but it’s something we want to keep up.
“We will be looking to bounce back against Coventry and make sure we cut those mistakes out.”
Fulton felt the manner in which Swansea’s work on attacking set-pieces helped them get back into the game was a positive, with the visitors threatening every time the ball was delivered into the area.
But he acknowledged their work at the other end of the pitch has to improve.
“It is something we have really put a lot of work into, and getting the two goals at the weekend will give us confidence with it moving forward,” he added.
“The flip side of that is we’ve conceded from two long throws and that’s really disappointing and something we know we have to improve on.
“We have worked really hard over pre-season, and it is an honest and hard-working group of players. We have finished games strongly so far this season and that is something we want to keep on with.
“But we need to make sure we are not putting ourselves into difficult positions like we did by conceding set-piece goals.”
