Jay Fulton | We know what derby day means to everyone
Jay Fulton says Swansea City know exactly what the south Wales derby means to the club’s supporters and the local community as they gear up to face Cardiff City.
On the back of a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Bristol City, the next assignment for Russell Martin’s Swans is a trip to Cardiff City Stadium to face their rivals.
Swansea’s recent record in the fixture is a good one. They have won the last three without conceding a goal, and have lost just one of the last eight.
History will not count for anything when the latest edition of the 110-year rivalry commences next Saturday, but Fulton – who has played in four derbies – and his team-mates are in no doubt of the importance of the game to the Jack Army and are desperate to deliver for them.
“I think it is a game that takes care of itself in terms of mentality, you don’t need to build it up because we know what is at stake and what it means,” said the midfielder, who recently signed a new contract to extend his stay with the club through to the summer of 2026.
“It’s a good game to be looking forward to after the international break.
“To be going into it on the back of the win over Bristol City is massive for us. Hopefully we can take a bit of confidence into that game.
“From there we want to be able to go on and finish the season well.”
