Darling and Fulton celebration v Rio Ave

Jay Fulton was pleased to end pre-season with a victory and goal as Swansea City claimed a 3-0 win over Rio Ave at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Fulton turned in a sharp cross to give the hosts the lead at the interval, before Kyle Naughton slammed home a second during the closing stages.

Skipper Matt Grimes then rounded things off with a fine low strike after Josh Thomas had won the ball back high up the pitch for the Swans.

Scottish midfielder Fulton believes the hard work put in over the course of their six-week pre-season programme was there to be seen in a positive showing.

And he stressed the importance of building on those levels when the Championship season kicks off at Middlesbrough next weekend.

“It was a good performance and nice to get back out there in the stadium. It was good to see the new boys get some minutes in front of the fans. It sets us up nicely for next week," said Fulton.

“It was definitely my goal, I was set up nicely and I just took my chance. It was also great to see Matt and Kyle on the scoresheet too.

“I felt good out there, and it’s definitely the hardest pre-season I have ever had, but the hard work over the last month came out on the pitch.

“But that hard work will need to come out again next week against Middlesborough, over the last six weeks that’s what we’ve been preparing for.

“I’m excited for the season to start, especially after getting back out there in the stadium in front of the fans.”
