Jay Fulton | It's been a tough season, but all I can do is keep working hard
Hard work remains the key for Jay Fulton after the midfielder netted his first goal in over a year to help Swansea City beat Plymouth Argyle in midweek.
The 30-year-old has had a frustrating season disrupted by a calf injury, while the level of competition for places in the Swansea midfield has also seen him make four league starts to this point.
But the Swans stalwart made the most of his opportunity at Home Park in midweek, calmly scoring the opener after a cross had been half-cleared for his first Swans goal since his header at Ipswich Town in November 2023.
Fulton admits it has been a tough campaign on a personal level, and he is still building up his match fitness, but he was pleased to make an important contribution.
“I was delighted to get the goal, I’ve come back from injury and I was pleased to be back in the team,” said the Scot.
“Obviously it is tough for any player when they are not getting regular games, I don’t think you can really be a footballer if it doesn’t frustrate you when you’re not playing games. It was the first injury I have had for a while.
“So I have to work hard. I worked hard to come back from the injury, I work hard in training every day so I can be as fit and ready as possible.
“There is a lot of competition, that’s always been the way of it at Swansea because of how we play and that competition can only be good for the squad to try and push up the league.
“We’re back in the top 10, and we can definitely look back at games and be disappointed not to have more points, so we want to kick on.”
