Coach Jarred Harvey called on Swansea City Under-18s to be more ruthless in both boxes following their 4-3 defeat to Queens Park Rangers in the Professional Development League.

The Swans opened the scoring through Rohan Davies, but the youngster’s goal would be cancelled out almost immediately as Ridwamalayi Hassan netted the equaliser.

Cameron Llewellyn struck before the break with an excellent left-footed finish into the top corner, however, Hassan would level again early on in the second period.

Jack Fanning put the Swans’ ahead for a third time after converting from a corner, but QPR got back on terms once more through Jake Leahy before snatching the winner with less than 10 minutes left of normal play as Hassan completed his hat-trick.

Harvey felt the quality of the goals were brilliant from the young Swans, but just wants them to find the clinical touch in front of goal that could have secured them the three points.

"I can't thank the boys enough in terms of their application, I thought they applied themselves well. It's just about managing the game better at times, but they'll learn from that," said Harvey.

"I thought the goals we scored were great. They were well worked and on the transition, we were smooth and moved the ball forward.

"The main message and takeaway from the game is to be more ruthless. We created a lot of chances and we did well to work situations for the those chances, but we didn't take them.

"It was a fair game, I don't think we deserved to lose it. From the balance of chances and play, we did look like the better team.

"We controlled large moments of the game, it's now about how we can manage those moments where we switched off and where we made some errors."

Arthur Parker

Harvey was also pleased with how a number of younger players stepped up from under-16 level, while others who have had not much game time recently also got minutes under their belts.

"We had some of our boys with the under-21s in Colchester, which is great for us and for them, it also means we can open the door for someone else to build their minutes up," he added.

"The under-21s were successful at Colchester, and Arthur Parker had a brilliant game, as did Woody [Thomas Woodward] when he came on.

"The youngsters were excellent today, as were the players who had made their first starts in a while. They all did so well going forward and on the transition.

"Callum [Jones] is a great lad, and I've seen him play a couple of times now. I'm proud he got to have his debut and he did brilliant when coming on.

"He almost got a goal for himself, and he settled right in to the structure and play."
