CoachJarred Harvey has called on Swansea City Under-18s’ players to be more ruthless in both boxes following their 5-1 defeat at Millwall in the Professional Development League.

The hosts netted four goals in the first half thanks to a Jack Howland brace, and close-range finishes from Oliver Whitby and Kavalli Heywood.

The Swans pulled a goal back whilst 3-0 down after Cameron Llewellyn's delivery was calmly finished off by Rohan Davies.

But the Lions netted a fifth goal in stoppage time at the end of the game as Howland completed his hat-trick, with the three points putting them on level terms with the Swans in the PDL South.

"This game was a prime example of the need to be good in both boxes. By that I mean defending the box well, and being clinical in the opposition box," said Harvey.

"There were a number of great chances for us to score in the game and we continue to get punished for not taking them.

"However, it’s a learning curve for the younger lads who’ve stepped up, and also for the squad in general. We have to be better without the ball, while being ruthless with it.

"But we will get there, as the players are good enough to become a team that can do both. To do that it’s important we stay patient and continue to give the younger players a chance to experience these type of games, as it’s nothing like they’ve been exposed to before.

"With players stepping up to the first team and under-21s over the weekend, it was a good opportunity for the younger players to get minutes under their belts."
