Jarred Harvey | Our performance deserved so much more
Coach Jarred Harvey praised Swansea City Under-18s' performance against Charlton Athletic, despite suffering a 2-1 defeat on the road in their Professional Development League clash at Sparrows Lane.
Callum Jones topped off his first start for the under-18s with a maiden goal, opening the scoring for the visitors just eight minutes into the contest after being picked out by Aimar Govea.
But the Addicks went on to score either side of the break through Micah Mbick and Ibrahim Fullah to complete their comeback and claim their third consecutive league victory.
Harvey praised the performances of the younger Swans who featured in the starting line-up, and just gelt a lack of a clinical touch in front of goal had been crucial.
"Going into the game with a number of players out due to injuries sustained in midweek allowed us to give opportunities to a couple of under-16s and to players who needed game time," said Harvey
"I thought we started the game really well, and scored a really good goal after a good passage of play, resulting in Aimar - who was excellent - beating the full-back and delivering a low cross across the box for Callum Jones.
"On the flip side, we’ve conceded two poor goals, which were very much avoidable. But it’a all part of the players learning, and with more practice I’m confident these mistakes will happen less and less.
"It’s so important we make sure the players are aware that this is all part of the process before making the next step.
"In the second half we were excellent. In certain parts that was arguably the best I’ve seen us with the ball, and our intensity to win it back was very good. We created a number of good chances, we just didn’t make them count when, on any other day, it could have been a different story. "
