Jamie Sherwood | We just lacked composure in front of goal
Swansea City Women’s first-team manager Jamie Sherwood insists his side must improve their composure in front of goal following their goalless draw against Barry Town United Women.
The Swans had numerous chances in what was the first game of phase two in the Genero Adran Premier, but were not able to find the breakthrough.
Sherwood believed his side had created enough opportunities to win the match, and says the side must learn to produce the right decisions and actions in the final third of the pitch.
“It is two points dropped, it was disappointing in terms of our ability to finish the opportunities we created again, it’s been the story of where we are at this season, we create enough opportunities but we don’t convert enough of them,” he said.
“We need to learn to have a little more composure in front of goal, to make the right decision and the right movements, we work on that week in and week out in training, but unfortunately we are just not getting that little bit of grass to convert these chances.
“It is frustrating because the girls have created enough opportunities to potentially win the game again.”
However, Sherwood was delighted to see 18-year-old Grace Tilley make her senior debut for the club, after a great campaign with the under 19s where she has managed to register eight goals and four assists for the age-grade side.
“The biggest positive of the game for me was Grace Tilley coming onto the pitch, she has really impressed us in the under-19s this year,” added Sherwood.
“She has been in and around the dressing room throughout the season, so it is nice to see her get onto the pitch and get the opportunity that she’s worked hard for.
“Hopefully she can be another young player we can add to the group moving forward.”
