First-team manager Jamie Sherwood praised Swansea City Women’s application in both boxes as they returned to winning ways with an 3-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town Women.

Nia Jones poked home from close range after seven minutes to give the Swans an early advantage.

Jess Williams made it two 10 minutes later, heading home Emily Richards’ corner delivery to make it 2-0.

Rebecca Mathias pulled one back before the break, her cross from distance sneaking under the crossbar and into the back of the net.

But Aimee Deacon’s eighth goal of the season sealed the three points, as she finished from Stacey John-Davis’ cross.

Sherwood was delighted with his side’s performance at the start of a three-game week.

“We are pleased; pleased with the performance and pleased with the result,” said Sherwood.

“The girls should take great pride in what they’ve done today, they’ve shown a lot of personality off the ball, and we were really pleased with the chances we took and created.

“We set out our game plan and know what we are capable of achieving. We’ve put our bodies on the line, put ourselves in positions to exploit the chances that we get and that got us the early goals.

“It was important we got what we deserved today, last week we didn’t get what we deserved, I feel that we deserved the win from that one, but this week we've managed to do it.

“It’s the start of three games in seven days, it’s important we have the squad in the right place to play  physically, tactically and mentally heading into the next two games, which will be slightly different tests.”

Centre-backs Williams and Jones found the back of the net in the first half, with Williams teeing up Jones’ first goal for the club.

But Sherwood is just as impressed with how the pair’s all-round showings in recent weeks and is pleased with how their relationship is developing.

“The partnership is growing really well, the relationship between the two of them is growing,” said Sherwood.

“They both want to play football which is part of our identity, they help us build and help us create.

“They’ve done that really well in recent weeks and we are really pleased with how their relationship is coming along.”
