Jamie Sherwood | We are content, but we need to be more clinical
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood has challenged Swansea City Women to be more clinical in front of goal, despite being pleased with their performance in beating Llanfair United Ladies 4-0 to reach the last eight of the Adran Trophy.
The Swans created a number of goalscoring opportunities in the first half, but only led by one at the break after Aimee Deacon rounded the goalkeeper for her seventh goal of the season.
Chloe Chivers doubled the lead after the interval with a long-range strike, before Emily Thomas quickly made it 3-0 with an arrowed effort into the bottom left corner.
Emily Richards rounded off the scoring 10 minutes from time with a low strike of her own.
Sherwood feels his side are in a good position, but was left frustrated that they couldn’t take more advantage of their attacking opportunities against the second-tier outfit.
“We are content with the result, but we aren’t fully satisfied,” said Sherwood.
“The tie should have been beyond reach at half-time, so content is the word, rather than happy.
“We played really well, we’ve possessed the ball well and moved the ball into areas that have caused them so much danger, but we haven’t been clinical in front of goal.
“We are having to create 15 to 18 chances at the moment to score four. We can do better than that and we must change that quickly.
“We are in a great position, we are in good place playing some good football, our personality off the ball is really starting to shine, with the ball we have been really positive and we need to take that into the next set of games.
“The girls are very aware of what the objectives are for the next couple of weeks and I fully expect them to achieve the standards we set.
“It’s crucial that the goals are going in from multiple scorers, we aren’t just relying on two or three people, which we have done as a club in the past.
“We are creating the chances and it's now about converting. We have had four different scorers, which is great, we have got quality in those areas. We just need to make sure we are more aggressive in the attacking box.”
