First-team manager Jamie Sherwood praised his side's second-half performance as they scored three goals after the break to beat Carmarthen Town Women 3-0 and reach the quarter-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

The tie was all square at the break, with the Swans having created a number of first-half chances only to be denied.

But Emily Richards would find the breakthrough with a powerful left footed strike after 63 minutes.

Sammy Wynne made it two nine minutes later, placing a shot into the bottom right corner for her first goal of the season.

Jasmine Guymer would seal the win late on, tucking a shot past Ffion Ashman after a great ball through from Wynne.

Sherwood was delighted with how his side performed in the second half and felt they reacted well after a frustrating first period.

“I’m really pleased with our second half performance,” said Sherwood.

“In the first half we didn’t move the ball as well as we can, we were keeping the ball on one side rather than moving from one side to another to exploit the spaces we were creating.

“We were a bit too eager to get ourselves into attacking areas of the pitch when we needed to get ourselves into areas of the pitch when we needed to move the ball, and in the second half that’s exactly what we started doing.

“In the second half we started doing that a lot better. We played a lot more with our identity, moved the ball well, created spaces, created gaps and we were very clinical inside the 18-yard box.

“We’ve shown again the quality that we have across the squad, we all have trust in each other and it is reflecting in our performances which really shone in the second half.

“We are asking players to make impacts when they step onto the pitch and make decisions really tough and our players.

“Jasmine [Guymer] came on and did that, she’s been through a lot this season and to get her goal with a nice tidy finish shows that depth we have. We’ve spoken about the depth since pre-season, we believe we have a good quality squad that will challenge many teams.

“We set our objectives for this period of games and we know what we want to achieve, being in the quarter-finals of this competition was one of them.

“Since the beginning of the season we’ve made no bones about the fact that we want to be challenging for silverware, so to be in two quarter-finals and have a league position where we are three points off the top with a game in hand shows we are challenging to be where we want to be.”

Sherwood also highlighted the performance of Wynne, who assisted both goals as well as finding the back of the net herself.

The first-team manager was pleased with her work off the ball on top of her output in front of goal.

“Sammy [Wynne] is a player that we fully believe in,” said Sherwood.

“We feel that technically and tactically she is one of the best players in the league and she’s been working really hard to show her personality off the ball.

“For her to get the goal today that she deserves is great, and obviously two assists as well.

“I think when she moved into that deeper role she could see the passes that she wanted to play so it was an interesting switch up that we made.”
