Jamie Sherwood | I'm over the moon for the players
First-team manager Jamie Sherwood was delighted for his players after Swansea City Women reached the Genero Adran Trophy final with a 3-2 win away at Wrexham.
Aimee Deacon fired the Swans ahead after just two minutes, Stacey John-Davis sliding a ball across for the forward to fire home.
Deacon would be involved in the second just before the break as she was brought down in the box, and John-Davis stepped up to the spot and coolly converted.
Wrexham pulled one back in the second half as Carra Jones’ cross snuck it’s way into the goal at the back post, but Emily Richards responded eight minutes from time, tapping home an Emily Thomas’ cross.
Olivia Fuller struck for the hosts deep into added time as she bundled the ball across the line, but it would prove to be a consolation as the Swans reached a second consecutive Genero Adran Trophy final.
Sherwood was delighted to have reached the final and praised his side for being clinical in front of goal.
“I’m over the moon for the girls,” said Sherwood.
“The players have been excellent, we’ve taken the moments more than we have done in other games and come out with the win.
“We took our opportunities, we were really clinical which was the most pleasing part.
“I’m so happy for the group; the players, the staff and everyone else associated to the club, this is everyone’s win.
“The supporters that made their journey up, it’s about a three-and-a-half hour drive, but they were there to cheer us into the final and I’m over the moon for every single one of them.
“It’s all about the win, we’re in a cup final now, we will now prepare for next week’s league fixture, but it’s a great start to 2025.
“We know what we want to achieve and how we will achieve it, it’s another step in the right direction, the togetherness of the group is really strong, everyone has contributed to getting us to this point.
“We still have a way to go, but this is a really positive step towards where we want to be.”
