Sherwood v Cardiff

First-team manager Jamie Sherwood felt Swansea City Women’s performance did not reflect the quality they have as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to league leaders Cardiff City Women.

Lily Billingham’s second-half strike secured the three points for the Bluebirds, as she broke through the defence before finishing at the far post.

The defeat was Swansea’s first of 2025, and Sherwood believes his side are capable of much more than they showed.

“We weren’t as good as we can be and that was disappointing,” said Sherwood.

“We’re all disappointed, I don’t think we showed what we are capable of.

“I felt we were very much inhibited in the way we wanted to play, and it’s very disappointing with our mindset in terms of going out to win a game of football.

“We always set ourselves up to go out and win games of football and I don’t think we’ve shown that today.

“I think we created enough opportunities in front of their goal to pinch one or two in the first half and I didn’t feel that we were under much pressure at half-time.

“I will have to look back back at the replay of their goal to see if the player was offside, the players are adamant that she was when she received the ball.

“We will look back on this and adjust as we need to going into the next fixture.”
