Jamie Sherwood felt it was a proud moment for the club as Swansea City Women defeated reigning Genero Adran Premier champions Cardiff City Women at the Swansea.com Stadium in front of 2,225 supporters.

Stacey John-Davis’ second-half goal was enough to seal three points for Sherwood’s side who dominated proceedings.

Sherwood was proud of his side's performance and felt it was another step on the road to their goals for this season.

“It means everything, we’ve got over 2,000 fans that have come out to watch the game and their enthusiasm and motivation got us over the line in the end,” said Sherwood.

“We’ve got to be really pleased and proud with what we’ve done, in our own home against the reigning league champions and we are really proud of everyone.

“It’s just another step towards where we want to go, every time we step on the pitch we have to believe that it is a step to the next part.

“Today is another step, we’ve shown we can go back-to-back against two tough teams and we keep building on that.

“To see what Stacey [John-Davis] went through to come back, I’m really proud of her as an individual, to get the goals and prove the work she is doing, long may that continue.”

The Swansea.com Stadium welcomed its second biggest crowd for a Swansea City Women’s fixture, with many taking part in a number of activities around the stadium before the game.

Sherwood is proud to see the work that is being done to grow the women’s game within in Swansea and to see how young supporters have been engaged.

“We wanted to create a sustainable programme, it’s not just about the performances on the pitch, it’s what we do off the pitch," he added.

“We’ve had players in the fan zone, players at the game yesterday talking about the game to encourage fans to come in, it’s not just the efforts on the pitch it’s everything around it.

“But everyone likes a winning team and I think everyone should be really proud of their football club today.”
