Jamie Sherwood | Every player executed our game plan

Swansea City Women’s first-team manager Jamie Sherwood felt that his side execution of their game plan was key to their 5-0 Genero Adran Trophy quarter-final victory.
Emily Richards opened the scoring for the Swans early, her low left footed drive finding the bottom left corner.
Stacey John-Davis made it two before the break with a volley inside the box from a tight angle, before finding her second of the afternoon after the break as she rounded the goalkeeper and smashed home.
John-Davis would seal her hat-trick soon after, a stunning volley from outside the box flying into the top left corner.
Jasmine Guymer would seal a five star performance from the Swans, bundling the ball over the line to ensure safe passage into the semi-finals.
Sherwood was delighted with the efforts of his entire squad and praised their commitment to the philosophy they are looking to play with.
“We are really pleased, it was a real squad effort today,” said Sherwood.
“Every player that entered the pitch executed the game plan the way that we wanted and I thought we were deserved winners.
“We respect every opposition we face, whether they are in our division or a lower division, every opposition will cause problems, but we have to respect that and we did that today.
“We made sure that we did our jobs the right way and we should be really proud of what we’ve done today.
“We know that Stacey [John-Davis] is a goal scorer, we’ve asked her to do some different roles for the team this season, but when we’ve asked her and she’s got herself in front of goal she’s put the ball in the back of the net.
“She deserved the hat-trick today and she deserves the accolades that come along with that, there has been a lot of hard work off the pitch from everyone to make sure that can happen.
“I thought Aimee Deacon was excellent up front with her today as well, relentlessly running into the channels and causing opposition defenders to make runs they don’t want to make which allowed others to get the reward of the goals.
“We should be really proud of the display today and what we are doing at this part in the season.
“We seem to forget that this is just game number 12 of a new chapter of what Swansea City wants to look like.
“We go and put a display on like that and that is great work for what we have done, we want more and will always want more, but we should be proud of what we’ve done.
“It’s now 90 minutes away from a cup final, we need to make sure we leave it all out on the pitch in the next round and hopefully get the rewards of what all the players and staff have put in since we started this journey.”
Maddy Murray stepped into the Swans defence in place of the absent Jess Williams, helping keep a clean sheet as well as regularly getting on the ball.
Sherwood was delighted with how Murray stepped up to take her opportunity and felt her calmness on the ball was key to the sides performance.
“Maddy [Murray] did really well, she did everything that we expected her to do,” said Sherwood.
“We knew what we were signing when we signed her, as a young player coming into the environment she’s settled in really well.
“She has been unfortunate that Nia [Jones] and Jess [Williams] have forged that strong partnership, but today she’s shown that she can come in and deputise in the right way.
“Her control on the ball came a lot from her calmness on the ball, and that allowed us to play and keep the ball which is what we are asking our team to do.”
