Jamie Paterson applauds fans at Bristol City

Jamie Paterson says Swansea City need to start turning possession and opportunities into goals following their 1-0 defeat to Bristol City.

A late goal from centre-half Rob Dickie claimed all three points for the Robins at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

However, the Swans had opportunities to take the lead themselves, dominating possession for much of the contest, and Paterson felt the visitors were left to rue missed chances.

“We are disappointed,” said the midfielder.

“We played well during certain parts of the game, but our final ball wasn’t good enough. If we take our chances and go 1-0 up, it's a different game and it is something we need to learn from.

“We have a massive game coming up, so we have to be positive and start the game on the front foot.

“We can take positives from the first half, but we do not want all of the possession only to not score from it.

“The challenge is to turn possession into goals, we created chances we should have done better with and it's something we will work hard on this week.”

Paterson reached a personal landmark on Sunday, making his 100th appearance for the Swans.

And, while he is proud of the achievement, he wished he could have celebrated with a result against his former club.

“To play 100 games for a club like Swansea is a milestone for me”, he said.

“It would have been better to get a win against my former club as well, but the Swansea fans gave me a great reception when I came off and that means a lot to me.

“I would have loved to have got them a result because a lot of fans travelled, and it would have been great to give them a goal to celebrate.”
