Jamie Paterson | There are plenty of positives for us
Jamie Paterson felt there were positives to take despite Swansea City’s defeat against Fulham.
The Swans slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Craven Cottage as Aleksandar Mitrovic struck a first-half hat-trick for Marco Silva’s men.
The Serbia international netted a quick-fire double before Paterson pulled one back following good work from Joel Piroe.
However, Mitrovic completed his treble on the stroke of half-time to secure three points for the hosts.
The Swans - who had over 60 per cent of possession and completed over 650 passes against the promotion favourites - spurned chances to set up a tight finish after the break, with Flynn Downes and Ethan Laird going close.
“It’s another game where we have created chances,” said Paterson, who has scored three times in 10 appearances for the Swans since his arrival this summer on a free transfer.
“We sort of shot ourselves in the foot, really.
“We can’t switch off for a second, they scored a very quick hat-trick. But, second half we pretty much dominated the best team in the league.
“I don’t think many teams will come here and dominate the game and the ball like that.
“But there are plenty of positives, we just need to take it into our next game.”
The Swans now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash against Derby County at Pride Park, but Paterson was quick to pay tribute to the 1,200 members of the Jack Army who made the trip to Craven Cottage to cheer on Russell Martin’s side.
“I’m sure the fans will see the improvement we’ve made over the past few weeks,” he added.
“A four-hour journey is tough, we’ve brought a good number of fans again, they clapped until the end and stuck with us.
“The more they stick with us, the more we want to play for them. They make a difference for us.”
