James targets cup opportunity
Daniel James hopes Tuesday’s second-round Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace will mean another opportunity for him to impress under Graham Potter.
The 20-year-old Wales Under-21 international made his first-team debut in last season’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Notts County, scoring a goal in an 8-1 win.
This season, the winger made a first Football League appearance in the goalless draw against Birmingham.
And he is hoping there will be another chance for game-time come Tuesday.
“Getting the chance to play Premier League opposition on Tuesday would be fantastic,” James said.
“Palace had a game yesterday, so you would think they will make changes. So we have to try and make the most of that tomorrow.
“A good run in the cup can sometimes reflect the league results. That happened last season.
“We want to do well in both cups this season. The cup competitions help young players come through.
“I was given my debut in the FA Cup last season and I managed to score against Notts County. Making my debut and scoring was a big thing."
He added: “This season players like myself have to push for bigger things so Tuesday could be an important game for me.
“I want to be involved and playing.
“Having players like Joe (Rodon) and Connor (Roberts) playing shows that the gaffer is willing to give young players a chance.
“Both those players have done so well this season. Yan Dhanda as well has shown he is a promising player. I want to follow that example."
