Jamal Lowe hoping to make more south Wales derby memories
Jamal Lowe hopes he can enjoy another south Wales derby day to remember as he prepares for a potential second Swansea City debut on Saturday night.
Lowe, 29, returned to the Swans during the final hours of deadline day, and will spend the remainder of the 2023-24 season on loan from Bournemouth.
The forward was previously with the club during the 2020-21 season, scoring 14 goals to help Swansea reach the Championship play-off final.
Among those 14 goals was a brace at Cardiff City Stadium in a 2-0 Swansea win in December 2020.
Having netted his first with a close-range finish, Lowe’s second was a superb solo effort as he broke away from covering defenders before steering a strike into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot.
And he is looking forward to experiencing the fixture once again.
“For me, in my first spell, that game at Cardiff away was a big one for me,” said Lowe.
“That came off the back of a run where I had not scored for a while, and that just ignited things for me.
“I went on a run of seven goals in seven games starting then, and I would have to say that was probably my most memorable game.
“It’s just funny that it is going to be my first game back, and it would be great to create a new memory.”
And head coach Michael Duff revealed Lowe’s excitement when he first discovered who Swansea’s first opponents would be as he went through the final stages of completing his move.
“It was quite an easy sell for Jamal on deadline day,” said Duff with a smile.
“I just told him the next game was against Cardiff and he went ‘right, I’ll jump in the car now and see you down there’.
“He is someone who knows the club well, he knows what it takes to be here, and he knows about the game.”
