Jacob Cook eyeing more contributions after maiden under-18s goal
Midfielder Jacob Cook is determined to keep making important contributions for Swansea City Under-18s after opening his goalscoring account in their 3-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth at Landore.
The Swans were 1-0 up inside three minutes with Rohan Davies converting from the spot after Thomas Woodward was fouled in the area. The visitors netted an equaliser before the break when Josh Salmon drilled the ball into an open net.
But Cook would put the Swans back in front before the hour-mark after sending a wonderful strike into the top corner, with Woodward sealing all three points by turning in Aimar Govea's cross in the final quarter.
Cook, 17, was delighted to sign off 2023 with a win, and wants to build on a maiden goal for the professional development phase side.
"This was an all-round performance from the boys, we dug deep and we did well to get the win against a tough side," said Cook.
"On a personal note, getting a goal is always a great feeling. At first, I didn't know it was going to stand as I saw Harlan [Perry] on the floor.
"The boys, in attack and defence, put in a great shift. Everyone worked so hard and we were glad to get this win after a slow spell in the league recently.
"It's been a great couple of weeks outside of the league, with the cup competitions and now this win, it's a great way to finish the year.
"We'll all rest up for Christmas now, and get ready for the new year where we face Ipswich again at home."
