Swansea City centre-back Jack Fanning believes hard work and dedication have paid off after he signed his first professional deal at the club, but the defender wants to make sure there are more positive moments to come.

Fanning, who made the move to south Wales initially as a scholar in January 2023, has signed a deal until the end of June 2025 in SA1.

The centre-back rose through the youth ranks at Exeter City, spending eight years within their academy set-up before turning his attention to non-league football.

Fanning had a stint with Tiverton Town, making his full first-team debut in October 2022 against Poole Town and scoring in the process.

The 18-year-old helped the Swans under-18s reach the final of the Professional Development League Cup, netting his first goal in club colours in the opening group-stage game against Cardiff City in September 2023.

"I'm absolutely buzzing, it's been one of my dreams since I was young and started taking football seriously," said Fanning of his pro deal.

"It feels surreal having played non-league football, to now be at Swansea City signing a pro deal. I've worked so hard to get to this moment.

"I knew at some point in my time, that this moment would come, but I'm so happy it's come true at a club like Swansea, I can't wait for the season ahead."

Fanning was named in several under-21s' matchday squads last term, but is yet to make his debut for the upper-age group.

But is looking forward to grasp at the opportunity and impress for Anthony Wright's side as he makes the full-time step up for the 2024-25 campaign.

"I've trained with the under-21s many times, but haven't actually played in a match. I'm looking forward to it," added Fanning.

"The intensity is very different, and I think that's something that suits me in my playing style.

"The football is one step closer to the first team, and that's the aim, to be within that environment in the next year.

"The main focus will be getting 100 per cent match fit and doing my best for the under-21s this campaign.

"I also just want to thank the coaches, and my family. Their support is the reason I've got this opportunity and I'm so grateful."
