Iwan Morgan hails team performance after personal treble
Iwan Morgan stole the show with a hat-trick but he was keen to focus on the collective after Swansea City Under-18s claimed an impressive win over Exeter as their new Professional Development League campaign draws near.
Morgan’s first-half treble – along with a Geoff Bony goal - helped fire the Swans to 4-0 lead over Exeter City before he was withdrawn at the break.
The Swans added to their tally after the break, with Cameron Llewellyn scoring his side’s fifth just five minutes after the young Grecians got one back from a corner.
“It was a good half for me,” said Morgan.
“The boys played well and it was really good to bounce back from last week, because last week we weren’t at our best at all so it was a good reaction (to defeat against Swindon).
“I was pleased with my individual performance, but the main thing was that we played well as a team.
“I scored three goals, so that’s not too bad but I felt like I needed to make up for last week, because last week I wasn’t good enough.
“This week, I just took my time a bit more and I played better. And when the team plays well, then I play well.
“We’ve got such a good, talented group of boys and the main thing is that we all played well as a team.”
The under-18s will end their pre-season preparations with a trip to face Arsenal on Saturday and Morgan and his team-mates are looking forward to testing themselves against Premier League opposition.
“The trip to Arsenal should be good. If we can take that performance into Arsenal then we’ll be okay,” he added.
“They’ll be a completely different side from Exeter so we’ll have to take our levels up again, but I believe we can do that.
“It’ll be a good game to play in I think. Both teams like to keep the ball on the floor and press high. That’s what we like to do so I’m guessing they’ll be similar.
“Hopefully it will be a good game and we’ll put in a good performance.”
