Injured players making good progress towards returns
Head coach Luke Williams says a number of Swansea City players are making good progress towards returning from injury.
Harry Darling was fit enough to play a part off the bench against Ipswich, while Azeem Abdulai also made a return to full training this week.
Josh Key, Bashir Humphreys, Harrison Ashby and Jamal Lowe are also nearing comebacks, although this weekend’s trip to Sunderland is likely to come too soon for them.
“We have players making good progress,” said Williams.
“Josh has been out on the grass with the conditioning team so he is not a million miles away, Harrison Ashby was out there too but there’s no fixed date for him.
“Azeem has trained so he could be available, but we need to be careful as we brought him back ahead of schedule last time and now we have a good plan for him. He is athletic and versatile so he would be a welcome addition.
“Jamal is doing well, we are communicating with Bournemouth on where he is with his rehab. We think he will be back soon. This game is too close but after that I think he will be back training fully and then be available to us.”
Sam Parker, Josh Ginnelly and Liam Walsh are long-term absentees, and Williams revealed midfielder Walsh has suffered a setback in his recovery.
“Liam Walsh has had setbacks and it’s a difficult one as he is not making the progress he wants to. He is doing everything he can possibly can,” added Williams.
“He is such a good guy who wants to be on the pitch but he has been unfortunate with his rehabilitation. We will have to see but it is really tough for him.
“He is an outstanding player, we are hoping we will get to see him before the end of the season.”
