Iestyn Jones excited to extend future at Swansea City
Swansea City defender Iestyn Jones says he's excited for his future at the club after signing if first professional contract.
The deal secures the youngster’s future at the club until the end of June 2026, and includes an option for an additional 12 months.
The 17-year-old has been at Swansea City since under-nine level and has since progressed through the ranks; signing his scholarship prior to the 2023-24 season.
"It's an amazing feeling, and it's something every player at academy level works towards," said Jones.
"I've been here for so long now, so to extend my time here and to give myself more time to learn and develop is brilliant.
"The coaches and staff here have helped me so much, and I can't thank them enough for all the hard work they do to help young footballers.
"My family have also been an incredible help as they've driven me back and for to training for years on end, I wouldn't be here without them."
Jones was a regular for the under-18s last term, and made his full under-21s' debut against Aston Villa in the Premier League Cup in February.
And he's got his sights set on bigger things to come in the future.
"Making the step up to the under-21s is next level, you're playing against more physical and bigger players, so you really do learn a lot," he added.
"Making my full debut at Aston Villa was a great experience, especially that we came away with a point and qualified for the next round of the cup.
"And since then, I've had consistent games with them and I've loved it. I feel the hard work also got me in the Wales Under-17s squad for the Euros.
"Playing a major tournament at a young age was incredible, to experience that whole environment made me very motivated to earn future call-ups for older age-groups.
"This is really just the beginning for me, I want to push on as hard as possible to get in and amongst the first team in years to come."
