Ian Owen hails Swans Ladies' "first class" performance
Swansea City Ladies manager Ian Owen hailed his side’s “first class” performance after completing the double over Welsh Women’s Premier League defending champions Cardiff Met.
Owen’s side have had a phenomenal season so far and have won every game in all competitions.
Sunday’s 1-0 triumph – courtesy of Lauren Smith’s goal - over the current league champions in Llandarcy created history for the Swans, with this being the first time they have achieved the league double over Met.
The win sees Met nine points adrift of Swansea in the league table, but they do have a game in hand.
Owen said: “Absolutely first class. I thought the players from start to finish were brilliant.
“We knew that Cardiff Met would bring their ‘A’ game to us, so it was bound to be a fantastic advert for the league.
“I think the performance and result was a great reward of how the team has been playing all season.
“We’ve played fantastic football and shown that we’ve got different angles to our game. If we need to be aggressive we can be, and we played some lovely football.
“It was a great finish from Lauren to win the game and I’m just super pleased with the outcome.”
The Swans haven’t conceded a single league goal this season – a feat Owen puts down as a team effort.
He added: “When we talk about our defence, we talk about our whole team really, but our defensive five including goalkeeper Deanna Lewis have been immense.
“Their statistics week in, week out are right up there and they showed that again on Sunday.
“Cardiff Met put us under a lot of pressure but without really threatening our goal and that is testament to how well our defence plays.”
The Swans are next in action on Sunday when they visit Briton Ferry Llansawe (2pm).
