Hernandez targets "perfect" season
19th April
Pablo Hernandez believes the Swans can complete a "perfect" season if they finish in the top ten of the Barclays Premier League.
Lifting the Capital One Cup in February rewrote the club's history books as the Swans won their first major trophy in its 100-year existence.
Now the remaining focus for the season is to cap off the club's most successful season with a top-half position in the league.
Currently ninth on 41 points, the Swans have six games remaining ahead of Saturday's home test with Southampton.
And club record signing Hernandez, a £5.55million signing from Valencia last August, feels adding a top-ten finish would complete a season which even surpassed his own expectations.
"It's a very important game for us on Saturday," said the Spanish international.
"We want to finish in the top ten, but it's not easy because the season is hard and long.
"It's been a very good season. We have won our first title and we haven't had problems with staying in the division.
"It's been a better season than I expected. I didn't expect to see the club win a major trophy, so that was great.
"It's been a nice change for me. English football is different to Spain.
"For me, it has been a positive season. I have played a lot of matches and although I'd like to score more goals I have been happy with my work for the team.
"Playing for Swansea in the Premier League and to get a top-ten finish on top of the League Cup would be a perfect season."
While the 28-year-old's first season in English football has gone better than expected, he can look forward to another European adventure.
The winger is vastly experienced in both the Europa League and Champions League, having played in the competitions at former club Valencia.
And he envisages a great experience for the Swans when they embark onto the continent next term.
"It's history for the club and the city," added Hernandez. "It's nice knowing we will be playing in Europe next season.
"I played in Europe for the last four years at Valencia - two years in the Europa League and two in the Champions League and they are great competitions.
"There will be big games against top teams and the fans, city and club will enjoy it."
