Harry Darling | There are signs of progress, but plenty to work on
Harry Darling feels three wins and three clean sheets in a row are signs of welcome progress for Swansea City, but admits there remains plenty of hard work ahead for Luke Williams’ side.
The Swans ran out 4-0 victors over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, with a flurry of late goals courtesy of Jamal Lowe, Ronald, Jerry Yates and Liam Walsh securing the three points.
The win followed home wins over Stoke City and Rotherham United, and ensured the Swans are enjoying their best run of form since October.
This was their biggest victory of the season, and a first away at the Terriers since 2008.
Centre-back Darling believes this sequence has shown encouragement for the future, but he insists no-one will be getting carried away.
“First things first, that’s a good win. To come away from home and win by that scoreline is really positive,” he said.
“There were a few times where we lost control of the game, and I guess that was always going to happen at times because they had a lot at stake and a lot to fight for in terms of the relegation scrap.
“So, coming here we knew it would be tough, but I felt we came through those periods well and then we had the quality we needed to finish the game strongly.
“We said before the game we wanted another clean sheet, that is three on the bounce now and as a team we have been really good at stopping teams creating good chances against us.
“We wanted another clean sheet and another win, we got that and we are happy.
“But we know there is still plenty of work to be done, though. We have to cut out those sticky periods in games.
“We’ve not done anything yet because of one good run, there’s a lot more to do.”
Darling also thanked all the travelling Jacks for their support in west Yorkshire, and hoped they enjoyed the win as a challenging campaign nears its end.
“We probably haven’t been at our best away from home for much of this season, and they come and travel in their numbers week in and week out,” he said.
“They did it again here, so to be able to give them a win like that is great. They deserve it, and I hope they enjoy the rest of their weekend.”
