Harry Darling pleased to bounce back after tough week
Harry Darling believes hard work paid off for Swansea City in their 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers.
Liam Cullen scored the only goal of the match through a curling first-half strike, after Jamal Lowe had twice been denied by the assistant’s flag.
It was the Swans’ first win at Ewood Park in over half a century and they were made to work for it late on as Blackburn applied some late pressure, but the visiting backline stood firm to earn their fourth clean sheet of the season in all competitions.
The victory came at the end of a difficult week, but did mark the Swans’ third consecutive win on the road.
“The last two games we lost so we wanted to bounce back, and it was good to get the clean sheet as well,” said Darling.
“We can take a lot of confidence from that game because I think Blackburn are a really good team and their recent results prove that, as well. I think they’d won three in a row.
“We knew we had to be good if we wanted a result and the reaction from the last few performances was very good.
“No-one wanted the start we had, but it was a really good performance in the end and, like the gaffer said, it’s three days spent away from our families so when you win and the hard work pays off that’s a nice feeling.”
Darling also took time to praise the 561 members of the Jack Army, many of whom left in the very early hours to turn up and support their side in Lancashire.
“The fans are always brilliant no matter where we go, but to come to a place like this, which is so far away, is incredible,” he said.
“I think you can see at the end that we really appreciate them and they helped us get over the line.”
