Swansea City Ladies midfielder Gwen Horgan has joined up with the Wales Under-17 squad this week as preparations begin for their 2022-23 international campaign.

Due to the conflict in Ukraine, the 2022 Uefa Women's Under-17 Euro qualifying campaign has been disrupted, so the group have met for a four-day training camp in North Wales as they work towards next season’s Uefa competition.

It’s been a whirlwind year for the 16-year-old. After being included in the travelling party for the Uefa Champions League fixtures earlier in the season, she was named among the first-team squad at the start of the season and played her part in a third title win for Swansea City Ladies.

Horgan is one of nine players called-up to the training camp who play their football in Wales.

"I’m really grateful for the opportunity," she said.

“I am looking forward to improving different areas of my game.”

Swans Ladies team manager, Ian Owen, added: “Gwen thoroughly deserves this opportunity.

“She has fitted nicely into our squad and all hold her in high regard. She is extremely talented and hopefully this experience will boost her confidence to challenge for a regular place in the first team.”
