Gorre determined to reach Checkatrade play-offs
Kenji Gorre wants Swansea City’s development players to embrace tonight’s opportunity in the Checkatrade Trophy as an under-21s side face Newport County at Rodney Parade (7.30pm).
A win would see the young Swans progress to the knockout stage of the competition with a game to spare in Group E South.
“It is a massive match for us,” said the 23-year-old.
“A win would see us progress to the next round of the competition and that is where we want to be.
“It is really important to get the most out of this game and the experience against EFL sides.
“We need to embrace opportunities we have against teams from League Two and make sure we take the game to them.”
Gorre made two Checkatrade Trophy appearances whilst on loan at League One side Northampton Town last season but did not feature during the young Swans' campaign as they progressed to the quarter-final of the competition.
The winger’s stunning free-kick this campaign helped the U21s come from behind to beat Cheltenham Town 2-1 in their opening group game in August.
And Gorre admits missed opportunities in the Trophy last season has made him more determined this campaign.
“I played a few games in the Checkatrade for Northampton Town last season," he said.
“Sadly we did not progress from the group but the lads had a great campaign here to make it to the quarter-finals. That just makes me more determined to go as far as possible this season.
“The final is at Wembley which is the biggest stage. It is what dreams are made of and we all want to get there.
“We can definitely achieve that with the young players we have, so we just have to keep going.”
Tickets can be purchased at Newport County's ticket office priced at £5 for adults & seniors, £3 for children & young adults (under 21).
Away supporters will need to go to the ticket hut at Gate 6 (off Corporation Road). Ticket purchases are CASH ONLY.
