Foundation Premier League Primary Stars school visit local care home
Swansea City AFC Foundation’s Premier League Primary Stars school Ysgol Bryn Teg visited a local care home ahead of Christmas as part of their social action project.
As part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, participants plan and execute a social action plan that looks to make a positive difference within their community.
With the Llys Y Bryn Residential Home located just over half a mile from the school, participants decided they wanted to spread festive cheer by visiting the residents.
The young pupils chatted with residents, as well as playing games and creating Christmas crafts that would be used to help decorate their classroom.
Courtney Butt leads the Primary Stars sessions at Ysgol Bryn Teg, and she was delighted to see the impact that the visiting young participants had on the residents at Llys Y Bryn.
“The children came together to think of ideas of how they could help their community, and they wanted to visit the local residents in the care home around the corner,” said Butt.
“As soon as they walked in, you could see the smile on the residents' faces, seeing them build connections with the community and making the residents smile was great.
“They played games, did crafts, and it would have definitely lifted the spirits for the residents.”
Jessica Owens is the home manager at Llys Y Bryn, and admitted she was emotional after seeing the positive impact of the festive visit.
“It’s brought a tear to my eye just seeing everyone interacting,” she said.
“It’s been lovely, we’ve had a few residents who have been ill recently so it’s really nice to see them alert and enjoying themselves.
“I think it will mean a lot, normally they would spend the morning with the TV for entertainment, but they are having a chat, they are enjoying, making jokes, and playing games.
“It’s stimulating them and it’s a really nice change for them.”
