Flynn Downes | We have to stick together and do the basics better
Flynn Downes says Swansea City will stick together but need to do the basics better following defeat at Blackpool.
The basics the midfielder was referring to include avoiding defensive lapses like that which allowed Gary Madine an unmarked header to strike the decisive blow in just the fourth minute at Bloomfield Road.
The Swans had control and dominance of possession for large parts of the game but, with an advantage to hold on to, Blackpool’s packed and stubborn defence proved difficult to break down.
Downes acknowledged giving sides a start is something Swansea cannot afford to do, and something they need to rectify as a group ahead of the midweek trip to Peterborough.
“It’s disappointing, without doubt, we’ve allowed the game to play into their hands with that early goal, said Downes.
“It’s the basics, we cannot concede early doors because we know what they are about.
“We had a lot of the ball and we had chances, but the early goal has killed us.
“But we have to stick together, big time.
“We have had this before and responded with better results and performances. We did it after Sheffield United.
“The lads are together. We know what we want to do, we have to stick at it and go again on Wednesday.”
