Flynn Downes learning every day from "unbelievable" Matt Grimes
Flynn Downes has praised “unbelievable” midfield partner Matt Grimes and hopes their on-field partnership can continue to flourish for Swansea City.
Grimes brought up his 200th appearance in club colours against Barnsley in April and was an ever-present for the Swans as he played every minute of the Championship campaign for the second time in three year.
Downes joined his skipper in the middle of the park on 37 occasions during league action, with the pair quickly forming a good understanding and complementing each other well with and without the ball.
Both featured prominently and Downes says he has learned so much from playing and training alongside the 26-year-old.
“He is the best midfielder I’ve ever played with and that speaks for itself,” said Downes, whose own performances saw him named the best newcomer at the club's awards evening.
“I love playing with him. He makes it so easy for me. I just have to do the basics and give him the ball because he’ll do the rest.
“He’s unbelievable on the ball and he’s got all the attributes. I’m just learning a lot from him.
“Every day he’s on it. There hasn’t been a training session where I’ve thought ‘he was a bit off it today’.
“He’s played every league minute this year, which is crazy, but that’s just testament to what a pro he is. On the pitch, it’s just everything he does when you watch him play.
“He’s so consistent every week and that’s something I want to add to my game.”
