Fede glad to focus on football
Federico Fernandez is glad to be focusing on football again after returning to Wales following the death of his father.
Fernandez missed Swansea City’s games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Stoke having flown home to Argentina to be with his family.
But the centre-back could return to the Swans squad when they host West Brom today.
Fernandez got some minutes under his belt with the Swans Under-23s as they beat Colchester 5-1 in the Premier League Cup on Thursday night.
If he does not play for the first team this afternoon, Fernandez is likely to feature when the Swans host Manchester City on Wednesday.
“It’s nice to be back in Swansea after a difficult moment in my personal life,” Fernandez said.
“I was happy to get some minutes for the under-23s.
“I spoke with the boss and we decided it would be good to play today and then focus on the Manchester City game.
“But it’s also a big game against West Brom. We hope we can deliver some points and then we focus on another busy week.
“Hopefully the boys can start in a positive way today and go from there. Every point is important, and especially at home we need to be strong.”
Fernandez and boss Paul Clement felt it would be good for the 28-year-old to turn out for the Swans’ development side to help him get back into the groove.
“I had seven or eight days without training and then a long flight,” added Fernandez, who played 62 minutes of the Colchester win.
“I feel good. I tried to help the boys and they produced a good performance. I like the football they played and they got a good win.”
