Ewan Griffiths relishing chance to follow in footsteps of senior internationals
Swansea City Under-18s goalkeeper Ewan Griffiths has his sight set on following in the footsteps of some of the club's senior international by representing Wales at a major tournament.
Griffiths was part of the Wales Under-17 squad that recently advanced to the elite round of qualifying for the 2023 European Championship with a series of impressive displays in Croatia.
The young Dragons topped the group by beating the hosts and securing draws against Sweden and Albania, with the draw for the next stage set to be held in the spring of 2023.
Swans stopper Griffiths has sported the Welsh jersey since first being capped at under-15 level, and he has already featured in various tournaments, including the 2021 Victory Shield.
The 16-year-old featured between the sticks in the thrilling 3-3 draw against Sweden and, at the end of a week where the likes of Joe Allen and Ben Cabango have been selected for the World Cup, Griffiths would love nothing more than to experience tournament football for his country.
"It was such an amazing experience to be out there with the boys. The competition was very hard, everyone was determined to get at least one point per game," said Griffiths.
"If we look at our second game against Sweden where we drew three-all, we showed how determined we are because we never gave up.
"We stuck together and that's what it's all about, really. To be fair to the boys, we did really well and we did what we went out there to do.
"From now until the next round, we just have to keep building to make sure we get to the finals in Hungary in the summer, it would be a dream to represent my country in a tournament like that.
"But I know I have to keep focusing on my performances and the work I put in on the training pitch for Swansea City.
"Hopefully, by the end of the season, I can secure more game time and hopefully, push for an under-21s' appearance too."
