Evan Watts eyeing strong finish to the season with play-offs still in reach
With the Professional Development League play-offs still in sight, Swansea City Under-21s' goalkeeper Evan Watts hopes to end the season on a high following their late 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
The visitors had Filip Lissah dismissed in the 17th minute for a foul on Bruno Fernandes, but the Swans had the better of the chances in south Yorkshire.
But substitute Maliq Cadogan would seal the three points late on as he finished at the second attempt after receiving a Kyrell Wilson lay-off following a brilliant counter-attack from the forward.
Watts, 19, recently returned to action following a knee injury, and has kept three clean sheets in his last five outings, and is excited about the potential of having a top-two finish to play for when the Swans face Birmingham City in their final league game at the Swansea.com Stadium on May 10.
"The boys put in a great performance, going down to 10 men early doors wasn't great, but we pulled through," said Watts.
"Everyone, from the frontline to the youngsters that came on, all dug deep. It's never easy facing a team on their home turf, especially at a stadium like Hillsborough.
"We really needed these three points, the play-offs are still in sight and we now have to monitor the teams around us, but we have to focus on ourselves first.
"We get to end our campaign at the Swansea.com Stadium, and those moments are always key to our learning and are always moments to savour in front of family and friends.
"We have one last big push now, and there's no doubt we can finish on a high because the group of boys and staff we have are incredible, and we're really looking forward to it."
