Equaliser a reward for our perseverance, says Luke Williams

Head coach Luke Williams felt a draw was just reward for his Swansea City side’s perseverance after Joe Allen’s stoppage-time header secured a point against West Bromwich Albion at the Swansea.com Stadium.

In a game of few clear-cut opportunities, the visitors had looked on course to take the spoils when substitute Tom Fellows found the net after a rapid counter-attack midway through the second half.

But the hosts levelled matters when Wales international Allen expertly steered a glancing header from Ronald’s volleyed cross into the far corner of the net.

Williams felt both sides looked understandably leggy as they played a fourth game in just 10 days, but was again proud of the resilience his side again exhibited to score a crucial late goal in back-to-back home fixtures.

“I think a draw was a fair result, it was a very, very even game,” said Williams.

“I think there were two teams who were exhausted after this Christmas period, but I think we were value for a draw.

“Both teams had promising moments that did not materialise as they would have hoped, and really good chances were at a premium, but the attitude of the players was great.

“We have seen a lot of promising attributes from this side, that resilience is one of them, and let’s hope we can build and grow together.”
