Ellie Lake | It was special to score at the stadium

Swansea City Women’s right-back Ellie Lake savoured a special moment after her goal helped her side come from behind to take three points against Wrexham in front of a record home attendance at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Carra Jones opened the scoring for the visitors in the 13th minute against the run of play, and it was Lake’s first goal of the season which drew the Swans level shortly after half-time when she struck a left-footed effort from outside the box into the bottom corner.

Skipper Katy Hosford sealed the 2-1 victory with a cool finish 10 minutes later to give the Swans a well-deserved win.

And Lake – who was sent off in the reverse fixture in north Wales, which ended in a 3-3 draw – was delighted to have put things right in Sunday’s match.

“We’re buzzing with that win and it’s a big occasion for us to play at the stadium,” she said.

“We did ourselves proud. They had one shot, one goal – but that happens.

“To beat Wrexham, and right our wrongs from the first game was good, especially for me after what happened in the first match.

“I think I usually only score one goal a season, so to get it here is really special for me.

“I just saw the gap, and I hit it. It felt like it took ages to go in, to be honest. I didn’t know how to celebrate because I’m not used to scoring.

“All my family were here to see it, which was nice.”

And it was all the more special as a crowd of 3,859 - nearly treble the previous highest for a women's game at the stadium - were there to watch the game. 

“The attendance was amazing,” added Lake.

“We were shouting to each other, and we weren’t able to hear each other over the noise. I’ve never been in a game where you can't hear Chloe Chivers, so it must have been really loud!"
