Swansea City Women defender Ellie Lake hopes she can continue to make important contributions in both penalty areas after getting two assists and a clean sheet in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Cardiff Met.

Lake helped set up the opener, winning the ball high up the pitch to allow Robyn Pinder to find the net with a stunning strike in the 51st minute.

Katy Hosford would make it 2-0 after converting a great ball by Chloe Chivers, before Lake turned provider again with a cross into Hosford for the captain to net her second goal and Swansea’s third.

Lake feels the Swans have really found their stride - having extended their run to 11 wins from their last 12 games in all competitions – and wants to continue to be heavily involved at both ends of the pitch.

“I’m buzzing with it to be honest, it’s two clean sheets and two wins from two games after Christmas so we will take loads of positives from that,” said Lake.

“Last season I didn’t get many goals or assists, but if I can help the team in the attacking third, as well as by defending well, then I will be very happy with that.

“Everybody is willing me to get higher up the pitch, so they were happy with it, but it was class finishing from Robyn [Pinder] and Hosford.

“The first half was a bit more difficult, but in the second half we dominated and that gives us great confidence heading into next week.

“We knew they weren’t going to set up the same way they did last week, they’ve had some new signings and they’ve got some good players and in the first half they made it tough for us.

“In the second half I think we tweaked a few things, and we absolutely went for it and from that point on it was our game.

“Before Christmas we were scoring quite a few goals but we were conceding a few as well, so to have two clean sheets is really positive for us.

“We had a tough start to the season, but I think we are flying and thriving now, we’ve kicked on in the league, we’ve won every game since we played Cardiff, so we will just look to kick on again.”
