Ellie Lake departs Swansea City Women
Swansea City Women can confirm the departure of defender Ellie Lake following the conclusion of her contract.
Lake joined the club in 2017 from Cardiff City Ladies, going on to help the Swans to three league titles and a Welsh Cup success.
At international level she captained Wales Women Under-19s, as well as receiving a call up to the senior national team in 2018 for the Cyprus Cup during her time with Swansea City.
The defender was one of the first players to sign a semi-professional deal with the club ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, and enjoyed a number of notable moments, including scoring in the Swansea.com Stadium win over Wrexham in front of a record crowd, and netting a last-minute winner against the same opposition at the Racecourse.
In her final game for the club, Lake led the team out as captain in the Genero Adran Trophy final.
“This has been a very difficult decision for me to make,” said Lake
“I’ve absolutely loved my time here with everyone, it’s been a big part of my life for the last seven years.
“When I first joined I could never have thought I would achieve everything I have done. To play week in week out with your best friends and be successful has been amazing, and to have won all that I have at the club has left me with memories to savour.
“From playing in the Champions League out in Romania, to winning the league and cup double, and scoring at the stadium, there are so many memories that will stay with me forever.”
Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Ellie for her contribution across seven years with the club and wish her the best in the future.
