Deja vu for matchwinner Connor Roberts
It proved a case of déjà vu for Connor Roberts as his late header proved the difference against Nottingham Forest.
Roberts powered home a thunderous header in the 87th minute to earn the Swans victory at the Liberty.
It proved a close encounter in SA1, with not much between the sides before the Wales international climbed above Yuri Ribeiro and headed home his third goal of the season.
It proved the same outcome as in the league meeting between the sides back in November, with Roberts’ header earning the Swans another away win on that occasion at the City Ground.
And the 25-year-old was delighted to help move the Swans to within a point of second-placed Brentford, with two games in hand.
“It’s obviously very pleasing for me to chip in with another goal and play my part in the win,” said Roberts.
“It was like a carbon copy of my goal at the City Ground earlier in the season – that takes me up to three this season, and that’s something I’m keen to improve on.
“But, at the end of the day, we’ve won and picked up another clean sheet so I’m happy whoever scores.”
Jake Bidwell’s cross proved a key part in the goal, with the former QPR man taking his tally of assists to eight for the campaign.
And Roberts, who lives next door to Bidwell, had plenty of praise for his fellow wing-back.
“It was like Ned Flanders crossing for Homer Simpson to score the winner,” joked Roberts.
“Bidders is great and we get along really well, so I’ll be thanking him for a while for his assist.
“He’s got a quality left foot and we know that he’ll put the ball into the right area, so it’s up to the rest of us to get onto the end of it.
“He’s got another assist, I’ve got another goal and we’ve got three points, so it’s a perfect outcome!”
