On This Day | Wales reach Euro 2016 quarter-finals
Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor both featured as Wales beat Northern Ireland 1-0 to book their place in the European Championship quarter-finals on June 25, 2016.
The Dragons set up a last-eight showdown with Belgium after Gareth McAuley’s own goal proved the difference in Paris.
Wales had topped Group B ahead of England thanks to a commanding 3-0 victory over Russia six days earlier, but a tense game of few chances ensued at the Parc des Princes.
However, the breakthrough finally arrived with a quarter of an hour remaining, as West Brom defender McAuley turned Gareth Bale’s cross into his own net.
Once again, Chris Coleman’s side featured a strong Swansea contingent.
Despite suffering an arm injury later on, Williams played the full 90 minutes in the heart of defence, as did Taylor at wing-back.
Meanwhile, former Swans Ben Davies and Joe Allen also featured for the entirety as the Welsh secured a historic result.
